Horror-themed competition is silly, not that scary.

What's the Story?
Hosted by the rapper known as Redman, SCARED FAMOUS is a reality series featuring a group of reality stars trying to survive in a haunted mansion for charity. Ten cast members from various VH1 unscripted series move into a haunted mansion on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia, that's supposedly haunted by a set of twins from long ago. Contestants like Black Ink Crew's Sky, Alaska from Ru Paul's Drag Race, and America's Next Top Model's Don Benjamin must participate in eerie and sometimes ghoulish challenges in hopes of remaining in the house for two months. They team up, make alliances, and do what they can to eliminate a fellow contestant in a horrible and (fictitiously) gruesome way. The final person remaining wins bragging rights and $100,000 to donate to a favorite charitable cause.
Is It Any Good?
This silly series features lots of strange noises and screams as contestants attempt to keep their cool and stay in the game. Ghostly images range from special effects to live-action visits from zombies, murderous clowns, and other creatures from the beyond. Meanwhile, challenges incorporate snakes, scorpions, and other creepy things.
These elements are combined with the endless bickering, scheming, and competitive behaviors that drive these sort of reality competitions. As a result, Scared Famous is more absurd than it is frightening. Fans of some of the reality personalities featured here may be drawn to it, but it's more nonsensical than it is original.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about haunted houses. What makes people believe that a house (or other place) hosts spirits or other things from beyond the grave?
Do you think the cast of Scared Famous is really alarmed by the things they see and hear while in the house? Or are they playing up their fears for dramatic effect?
