What's the Story?
SCHOOL OF CHOCOLATE is hosted by Chef Amaury Guichon, a renowned chocolatier known for giant, beautiful, fantastical chocolate showpieces. Chef Guichon sets out to teach eight students -- each with their own accomplished careers -- his tricks and techniques. The students are challenged to use chocolate to create everything from large, edible structures to small, functional tools, and the student who does the best will walk away with $50,000 and an opportunity to become a teacher themselves.
Is It Any Good?
For a long time, reality compeititions thrived on the drama between compeititors; this series belongs to a recent wave of cooking shows that focus more on positivity and craft. School of Chocolate's unique addition to the format is that none of the contestants get eliminated. In fact, they're all rewarded with a wealth of chocolatier knowledge and the opportunity to shine. The personalities, challenges, and collaborations will still give fans of reality competitions plenty to latch onto, but by focusing on craft and progress, School of Chocolate has found a way to harness the positivity of something like The Great British Baking Show without simply copying the format.

Families can talk about chocolate. What kinds of chocolate do you eat? What are some differences between the types of chocolate we consume every day and the chocolate they work with in School of Chocolate? What are some of the things the students do with chocolate that surprise or amaze you?
How do the different participants approach school? What are some differences between those who succeed and those who do not? What happens when students have trouble with a particular assignment? What are some examples of students overcoming frustrations or difficulties?
What are the collaborations between the chocolatiers like? What is successful and unsuccessful about the way they work together? Do the teams that get along well always do well? What are some reasons for teams winning or losing?
