What's the Story?

SHE THE PEOPLE follows Antoinette Dunkerson (Terri J. Vaughn) trying to juggle her life and her career in politics. In Mississippi, Antoinette aims to become the first Black lieutenant governor in the state. But when she follows her daughter to a party on election night, Antoinette is filmed punching a kid in the face. Assuming her career is ruined, she's surprised when that punch wins her the election. As she moves into her office at the state capital, Antoinette finds herself in charge of her chaotic family and conservative coworkers.

This series struggles to balance comedy with topics on politics and race. She the People is off-beat, off-kilter, and fast-paced, but the humor and jokes fall flat with its awkward pacing. This series does fit well into the easy, daytime sitcom genre. But viewers would be better off getting their comedy politics fix somewhere else. The strong language, drug references, and sexual innuendos make this suitable for older teens.
