Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 1 ):
Kids say ( 1 ):

This series is good news for for Anglophiles who want to see something a bit different from the usual British crime drama. The "something different" comes thanks to the focus on a diverse English town and Cush Jumbo, who leads the series. As the series and its secrets unfold, expect that depictions of sex work will be given a three-dimensional representation.

Jumbo is given a lot of material to work with, and she delivers by portraying a character with multiple layers, depth of feeling, and grit. Overall, fans of hers from The Good Wife and The Good Fight will be thrilled to see her showcase all of her theatrical power as the centerpiece of this new series. And fans of British thrillers will feel right at home while being challenged to experience something new by seeing a Black woman at the helm.
