Stranded with My Mother-in-Law
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Hosted by Fernanda Souza, STRANDED WITH MY MOTHER-IN-LAW is a Brazilian reality show in which people are brought to a deserted island under the false pretense of partaking in a couples' competition. Instead, half of them are left on the island to compete for a cash prize with their mothers-in-law.
Is It Any Good?
Despite its gorgeous setting and interesting plot twists, this reality show disturbingly capitalizes on the complexities of family relationships in the name of ratings. Stranded with My Mother-in-Law revolves around a premise that mothers-in-laws are universally feared entities. While it certainly serves up plenty of unexpected twists, it also shamelessly encourages discord among family members. The dramatic moments where contestants are pressured to choose between their spouse and their mother are especially gross. In light of recent allegations of abusive practices on similar reality programs, including manipulation and false imprisonment, the deliberate isolation of participants and conniving set-ups become unsettling.
