Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Lincoln Gumb's (Adam Scott) mom was once a respected lawyer, a powerhouse legal team in Las Vegas with the esteemed Steve Nichols (Keith David). But then she was hit by a truck, leaving her son to carry on her legacy, practicing STRIP LAW on Las Vegas Boulevard's famous Strip. Now Lincoln holds down a law office with disbarred associate Glem Borchman (Stephen Root), with his niece Irene (Shannon Gisela), taking on weird and wild cases as they come.
Is It Any Good?
Unhinged and surreal, this animated series "proudly made by real, non-computer human beings" (as the opening credits tell us) is a fast-moving, funny delight for fans of the absurd. Strip Law's greatest asset is its voice talent: Adam Scott is reliably hilarious and relatable as always, which will be no surprise to viewers who appreciate his work in series as disparate as Parks and Recreation and Severance. Stephen Root is also a well-known comic presence, contributing his voice (and sometimes his face) to indelible roles in King of the Hill and Office Space. But Janelle James, best known for playing Principal Coleman Abbott Elementary, is a profane, voluble surprise, portraying a street magician who takes a job at Lincoln's law firm, because, as he puts it, "I've got my mom's lawyer-smarts, you've got her razzle-matazzle."
James' Sheila Flambe sure does, and as she informs her new boss, trying to win cases using "100-year-old laws" from "moldy old books" will never work on the super-weird Vegas strip. Sheila and Lincoln are an unbeatable pair, and the deeply silly Strip Law is a gas: And that's the truth and nothing but.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about animated series and how they're different from live action shows. What kinds of things are possible using animation? How does Strip Law take advantage of its medium?
Though there have been many animated series aimed at adults, some think that animation is best used for kids' TV shows. Is Strip Law a kids' show? Why or why not? Are kids more likely to appreciate animated shows, even those made for adults?
Are you familiar with any of the voice actors on Strip Law from other TV shows or movies? Does that impact how you view their work on this show?
