What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Tamir on the Street is part of Sesame Workshop's ongoing initiative called Coming Together (See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special and The Power of We: A Sesame Street Special). It's goals are to nurture children's sense of belonging and to help them build healthy racial, ethnic, and cultural identities. The show's star, Tamir, is a Black boy and the first episode features his friend, Ji-Young, a Korean-American girl. Tamir is curious and a good listener. He's started his own YouTube-style show in which he learns more about the racially diverse friends and neighbors in his community by asking big questions. A variety of identity-affirming topics are covered. Questions asked include "What are our friends' family traditions?" and "How can we be a good friend?" The first of the four episodes also teaches that "believing in ourselves is when we're proud of who are and what we can do."

Is It Any Good?
It's no surprise Sesame Street has once again hit it out of the park with this latest offering in its ongoing campaign to give children of all backgrounds a sense of belonging. Tamir on the Street provides bite-sized episodes perfectly constructed to deliver its message of inclusive communities anytime and anywhere. The show's host, Tamir, cleverly plays into children's natural inclination to ask a lot of questions to address their feelings on ethnicity and heritage. The overall tone is playful and welcoming and the message is one all kids need to hear more often.
