What's the Story?
There are no morals in the world of TEENAGE EUTHANASIA. After Trophy Fantasy (Maria Bamford) died and was reanimated by her doubtful daughter Euthanasia "Annie" Fantasy (Jo Firetsone), she finds herself with a second chance at life. She resides at Tender Endings Funeral Home with her codependent mortician brother Uncle Pete (Tim Robinson) and overbearing mother Baba (Bebe Neuwirth) in Florida. As Annie moves through her teen years Trophy is faced with some realities of being a parent. How will this salacious, immature, undead corpse navigate motherhood with her cautious and insecure teen?
Is It Any Good?
The story premise is unique, and it has that Adult Swim signature of moving at such a rapid pace it's hard to focus on one thing for too long. Teenage Euthanasia interpolates bizarre scenarios and sexual humor against barely-there discussions of parenting, family, and youth. Though Trophy's motherhood and Annie's growth are the focus, there's also a mirror story between Baba's motherhood and Uncle Pete. With all that said, these stories easily get dampened underneath all the noise and speed of the show. It's not for younger viewers, since it's packed with sexual jokes and content, as well as nudity. But older viewers may find this a fun watch, with the fast-paced chaos, jokes, and occasional commentary on society.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the parenting/motherhood represented in Teenage Euthanasia. How are Trophy and Baba's parenting styles different? Similar? How do Annie and Uncle Pete react to these women parenting them? In what ways is it helping or harming them?
Is it important for characters to be good role models or not? What shows do you watch that have positive behavior models?
