The Åre Murders
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
THE ÅRE MURDERS series spans two separate murders over five episodes. The first three episodes explore the mysterious death of a teenage girl, along with her ties to a fellow student who is in over her head in a toxic and abusive situation with an adult. The last two episodes follow the death of a well-known skier. Infidelity is at the core of both murders. The cases are solved by Officer Daniel and the new-in-town Hanna, from Stockholm.
Is It Any Good?
This is an edge-of-your-seat crime series that spans two separate murders in one small, snowy, Swedish town. Viewers unfamiliar with The Åre Murders books by Viveca Sten are in for exciting twists and unexpected plotlines. For fans of Nordic TV, you will recognize lots of familiar faces, including Jon Øigarden from Norsemen, Agnes Kittelsen from Max Manus, and Carla Sehn from Love & Anarchy. The writing and acting are top-notch, the scenery is glorious (think cool blue fields of snow dotted with yellow and red cabins and pale pink sunsets over dark navy-colored forests)—a perfect place for a crime story to unfold.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how the Åre murders begin with an officer from Stockholm trying to get away from her job in domestic violence and then taking on work instead of resting. Have you ever expected things to go one way, and then plans changed completely? What was that like?
The Åre Murders is based on a book series. Are there books that you love that have been turned into TV series or films? Which were most successful in your opinion? Which series or movies missed the mark?
After watching The Åre Murders, how do you feel about the close partnership between Hanna and Daniel?
