What's the Story?

THE ASSET is about a Danish spy agency that requires a new undercover agent when the original one has an accident on an airplane while using his body to transport cocaine. The new agent, Tea (Clara Dessau), is a young woman from a rough upbringing who has the grit and determination (and little to lose) to take on the mission. Tea must infiltrate the criminal organization by getting close to Ashley (Maria Cordsen), the leader's girlfriend. Things get complicated when relationships and work lines are blurred.

Fans of Scandinavian crime dramas and thrillers will enjoy the quick pace of the series (and heart rate at which it will keep you). Be aware that The Asset's story leans heavily on toxic patriarchal themes of men using violence to get what they want (e.g., "treating" a woman and her friends in exchange for favors and loyalty). But the two characters who grow the most in the series are the female leads who exhibit strength in a variety of ways.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the two female leads. How are they different or similar? Are there common goals for the women? How do the women exhibit strength in this series?

  • Tea takes on the role of a jeweler and gem expert. If you were an undercover police officer, what skills do you think you could pick up and convincingly pretend to be an expert in? Would you remain cool under pressure?
