The 'Burbs
What's the Story?
In THE 'BURBS, Hinkley Hills newcomer Samira (Keke Palmer) is curious about the neighborhood eyesore, a mysterious, ramshackle Victorian that's been abandoned for 20 years. So when there's an open house, she and her eccentric neighbors—widow Lynn (Julia Duffy), retired Marine Dana (Paula Pell), and thoroughly unusual individual Todd (Mark Proksch)—simply have to investigate. When an even more mysterious man moves onto the property, and a 20-year-old murder is uncovered, the newly formed team of allies is on the case. Will they find the truth?
Is It Any Good?
This fun series surpasses its campy predecessor by giving its characters more depth and ramping up the friendship among the neighborhood crew. The always excellent Palmer shines in The 'Burbs as a young, lonely new mom in a complicated situation she hopes is best for her kid. The supporting characters are also great; each bears their own burdens, but they're immediately down to support Samira. Everyone is bored enough to hyperfocus on the Hinkley House and its mysteries, which may or may not yield results—but it's all about the journey.
