The Confidante
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
The Confidante follows Christelle (Laure Calamy) as she insinuates herself amongst a group of terrorist attack survivors. As she obsessively offers herself as a source of support and comfort, her ulterior motives remain hidden.
Is It Any Good?
This unnerving series is a solid character study that's deliberate about how little it reveals about its central character. The Confidante demonstrates how one bad actor — even one with good intentions — can disrupt and damage a whole community of people. The series has its technical flaws: for example, it overdubs French dialogue in English but doesn't translate the text that frequently comes on the screen. But the unique plot (loosely based on a true story) and thematic ground make it well worth watching.
