The Diamond Heist
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
THE DIAMOND HEIST recounts the outrageous true story of an attempted diamond heist in 2000 involving the 203-carat De Beers Millennium Star, valued at over $250 million. The three-part series is told through first-person interviews, actual video, and scripted reenactments. Guy Ritchie executive produced, which is reflected in the stylized presentation of the story.
Is It Any Good?
Stylistic choices and surprising twists transform what could be a standard documentary into a fast-paced thrill ride. The editing, music, and general tone of The Diamond Heist have the feel of Ocean's Eleven with a sprinkle of Guy Ritchie's signature swagger (he serves as executive producer) on top, hooking viewers from the first sentence and keeping them locked in to see if, and how, the plan is pulled off.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how the crime is portrayed. Does it discuss any of the lasting consequences for those involved or their families?
Do the stylistic choices made by the creators affect how viewers feel about the seriousness of the robbery?
Why might stories about heists be so appealing in pop culture?
