The Kollective
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In THE KOLLECTIVE, a group of young citizen journalists reunites after a mysterious plane crash in the Democratic Republic of the Congo kills one of their own. Led by principled investigator Noor (Céline Buckens), seasoned journalist Maya Blade (Natascha McElhone), and tech-savvy Lucas (Gijs Blom), they refuse to accept the official story and begin a high-stakes investigation using satellite imagery, leaked data, and open-source tools. As they follow the trail across London, Budapest, and St. Petersburg, they uncover a vast web of corruption, surveillance, and state-sponsored cover-ups.
Is It Any Good?
This slick, modern investigative thriller taps into the rise of digital activism and open-source journalism. With an exciting premise and a pan-European cast, The Kollective excels at procedural details: satellite analysis, metadata tracking, and cross-border collaboration. Buckens maintains a steady performance as the team's moral compass, and McElhone brings gravity as a disillusioned yet grounded veteran guiding the next generation.
Still, the show doesn't fully deliver on all fronts. It avoids sensationalism but also underplays personal connections, making it more intellectually engaging than emotionally gripping. As a result, it succeeds more as a timely concept piece than a well-made drama. But for viewers interested in its methodical segments and real-world conspiracies, it could still be a solid, thoughtful watch.
