What's the Story?

THE LAKE is a comedy series about Justin (Jordan Garvaris), a man returning home to his family lake house in Canada to try to reconnect with his daughter Billie (Madison Shamoun). Justin placed Billie for adoption when she was a baby, but because of his decision, he and his family fell out. Now, after his father's death, Justin wants to both reunite with his family and reclaim the lake house from his stepsister Maisy-May (Julia Stiles).

The series makes for funny, gentle viewing, especially if you love family-centric situational comedy. The Lake is perfect for the sun-drenched days of summer, and it also mixes in poignant moments about family togetherness.

The series is great for reflecting everyday diversity, including showcasing a young child on the LGBTQ+ spectrum who feels empowered to be themselves. Viewers might also feel represented in that adoption and racial issues are discussed openly, both in serious and humorous situations. The series might not be as fast-paced as other comedic shows, but the Canadian production might be great for those who enjoy Schitt's Creek's pacing.
