The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF SALT LAKE CITY, the 10th installment of The Real Housewives franchise, features Jen Shah, Heather Gay, Whitney Rose, Lisa Barlow, Mary Cosby, Meredith Marks, and Jennie Nguyen living and loving life in Utah. The six women negotiate their families, careers, wealth, and status in and around the Salt Lake City area. Some are also negotiating their Mormon beliefs and practices. There are some unexpected moments and lots of drama, but these housewives try to live their lives to the fullest.
Is It Any Good?
The series spin-off tries to make itself a little less formulaic by featuring privileged housewives in a city often-characterized as being ultra-conservative thanks to its large population of practicing Mormons. But while The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City features all the expected contrived drama and wild disagreements, a big part of the drama revolves around Jen Shah, whose arrest and subsequent incarceration for wire fraud and money laundering was chronicled while the first two years that the series was filming. The later addition of Jennie Nguyen also adds some drama.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the practice of Mormonism. Why is Utah known for its Mormon population? What media characterizations about Mormons, or the Church itself, have been perpetuated over the years?
Is it ethical for producers of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to follow Jen Shah throughout her legal battle? Why would she agree to it?
