What's the Story?

THE WILD ONES follows Declan Burley, Vianet Djenguet, and Aldo Kane (former marine commando and wildlife photographers) as they track various wild animal species to photograph and film them, and work with local scientific groups to help the animals.

This short, formulaic nature show seems to create slightly chaotic scenarios for the brave explorers to face. In one episode, the men dive into a murky river in a dense jungle after over-packing their gear on a canoe. In another episode, the men enter a forest via a bridge that may give out when the rainy season strikes (just days from their entering). While many nature/adventure shows seem to warn against needless risks, The Wild Ones embraces them. Each episode is successful in finding the animal they seek, but the scientific contributions and "help" the hosts offer feels more like an afterthought to support their boys trip.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about all of the various climates/ecosystems that the hosts visit. Which would you want to go exploring in? From adventures at sea, jungles and barren mountains, if you were tracking animals, where would you like to do it and why?

  • Talk about the animals that are highlighted in The Wild Ones. Were you surprised that a particular species was in need of help? Are there any organizations you can support to further help protect them?

  • Of the three hosts, who did you connect with the most, and did you admire the work they had done previously as wildlife photographers and a marine commando? What do you think are the biggest challenges of animal photography?
