'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess
What's the Story?
‘TIS TIME FOR "TORTURE" PRINCESS is about Princess (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) and her sentient sword Excalibur (voiced by Chikahiro Kobayashi) in their days of imprisonment as they fight -- and give in to -- temptation at the hands of their enemies, the Hellhorde. Except...the demons are nice, the torture is tasty, and Princess is having a better time here than back home!
Is It Any Good?
This funny foodie anime is good for laughs but has a sweet side that tugs at your heartstrings. ‘Tis Time for "Torture," Princess takes familiar fantasy tropes and turns them on their head to make charming, relatable characters who are also good role models. The brave warrior princess has a weakness for cute things. The scary demon lord is a doting dad. The demon torturers just want to make friends.
The jokes are clever because they rely on near-universal experiences of everyday life. The suggestive sexiness is a little off-putting because it's so unnecessary to the story, but it's infrequent enough that it's easy to overlook. Overall, it's a fun, silly show that leaves plenty of room for talking about positive life lessons.
