What's the Story?

In TOMORROW, an afterlife risk-management team has been put into action to help sort out the lives of people on Earth. A down-on-his-luck young man named Choi Joon-woong (K-pop idol Rowoon), in an attempt to save a homeless man's life, is swept into the supernatural world. He's given a choice to return to his body and lie in a coma for months, or work for a team of grim reapers who attempt to prevent suicide among humans. What will Joon-woong be able to do to help, if anything?

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Part sci-fi, part drama, this show argues important issues of whether suicide is something to be ashamed of or whether it's a massive cry for help. Because Tomorrow has a goofy hero and is riddled with slide-whistle sound effects, it's hard to take the arguments seriously. Nonetheless, as the director of the grim reapers' company points out, 40 Koreans commit suicide every day.

The topic of suicide is complicated, especially for those whose lives have been touched by it. As such, this show might be difficult for younger teens to sort out. Are there moral lessons to be learned? Maybe. Is the sci-fi aspect intriguing? Yes. But at times, it's a challenge to figure out whether this show is making light of suicide, or taking the discussion to a more abstract philosophical level. Parents might want to keep an eye on teens who are watching Tomorrow.
