What's the Story?

In UNDER A DARK SUN, Alba (Ava Baya) runs from her past and takes a job at a seasonal flower farm. Her new boss is shot and killed and she becomes the prime suspect. When changes to the dead man's will surface, and the woman learns that she's the daughter if the dead man, she becomes the prime suspect. Alba's criminal background doesn't do her any favors and any and all wrong-doings are pinned on her until the extremely complicated end.

If you were to ask a film student in high school or college to write an "edgy" murder mystery and gave them the prompts of "perfume manufacturing" and "wildly dysfunctional family members" you might get this series. Under a Dark Sun labors under so many twists and turns, subplots, and surprise characters. Every character is problematic and hard to connect with, while the story is far-fetched and overly complicated. If you like foreign crime dramas, only put this on if you want to practice French language skills.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about what how members of this family treat each other. Why is it important to treat people with, and expect, respect? What's something you really like about how your own family communicates and works together?

  • If you had a family business, what would it be? Is there something you're all passionate about/good at that you think would make a good business?

  • In this series, the mother, Alba, has a son and would presumably do anything for him, including breaking several laws. If you were Alba, what would you do differently as a mother?
