What's the Story?

VIRGINS is an unscripted series about four adults who have not sexual intercourse, but would like to in the near future. Deanne, 35; Rasha, 42; Sonali, 37; and Alex, 34, would like to each meet someone they're attracted to, build a relationship, and eventually be sexually intimate. But it hasn't been easy, and now they're left wondering why they're incapable of doing so—and if it's even possible. With the help of their friends, family, medical experts, and therapists, they each embark on their own journeys toward understanding the personal obstacles standing in the way of building the kind of relationships they want, with the hope that one day they can have healthy and happy sexual relationships.

Is It Any Good?

The voyeuristic series features four individuals who share deeply personal information about their struggles with having sexually intimate relationships and the ways they're trying to overcome them. While the Virgins cast are called "late bloomers," each of them share brief details about life experiences that affect the way they think about themselves as sexual beings. Some were raised with cultural taboos surrounding sex and women's sexuality; others were subjected to bullying and rejection that led to body image or other issues that affected their confidence about their bodies and themselves. Some also have unrealistic standards about the people they imagine themselves partnering with. The show features lots of uncomfortably awkward moments, and sometimes conversations about sexual activity (or the lack of) feel preplanned. Virgins treats the cast with empathy, and does succeed in shedding light on a topic that most adults don't talk about publicly.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about sex and consensual sexual intimacy. When is it OK to talk to kids about these topics? Who should kids talk to if they have questions about these topics?

  • Is Virgins meant to be helpful to people who have similar issues? Or is it really produced to be voyeuristically entertaining, given the subject matter?
