What's the Story?

WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM tells the story of the 1992 USA Select Team, a group of college athletes handpicked to practice against the greatest basketball team ever assembled—the Dream Team of the 1992 Olympic Games. The documentary zeroes in on an exhibition match between the students, most of whom went on to have NBA careers themselves, and the pros, which included Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and more of the best to ever play.

Just like in real life, the actual Dream Team is the main attraction here. We Beat the Dream Team takes a close look at a fascinating bit of mythology from the 1992 Olympics, but it mostly feels like a special feature stretched to out to movie length. The interviews with the members of the Select Team are fun, but interviews with members of the actual Dream Team— Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and more—are recycled from other sources. This one is for fans only.
