What's the Story?

Based on the webtoon of the same name, WEAK HERO is a K-drama about a bullied student who uses his intellect, psychological tricks, and small tools to fight against school bullies. Yeon Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon) is the top student in his class, but physically weak and antisocial. He's held his own by staying calm and appearing indifferent when targeted by jealous bullies like Jeon Yeong-bin (Kim Su-gyeom). But when Yeon seriously injures him in a fight, Jeon retaliates by paying his gangster cousin Seok-dae (Shin Seung-ho) to brutally beat him. Yeon finds himself in over his head, but luckily recent transfer Oh Boom-seok (Hong Kyung) and MMA-trained Ahn Su-ho (Choi Hyun-wook) get involved and help him. Soon the three teens become friends and band together to survive high school.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 2 ):
Kids say ( 7 ):

The energetic teen-oriented series features lots of uncomfortable bullying scenes and violent altercations as Yeon (Park Ji-hoon) and his friends confront the ongoing bullying in their high school. As the Weak Hero bullies become more jealous of Yeon due to his grades, or frustrated over the fact that they can't "break" Yeon or his friends, the trio wants to stay committed to confronting the violence, no matter how hard, in order to eradicate it from their school. But as they move up levels (grades) some of the same bullies continue to target them, while a secret centralized high school gang network known as the "Union" introduce new enemies to worry about. Granted, Weak Hero's anti-violence message is a good one, but the sadistic behavior and frequent fights make that easy to forget. There are those who will find it entertaining, while others may be looking for a plotline that's more committed to non-violent solutions.
