When I Fly Towards You
What's the Story?
It's 2012 and Su Zai Zai (Miao Yi Zhang) is getting ready to start at a new high school in WHEN I FLY TOWARDS YOU. She and her friends are nervous and excited. One rainy day, Su Zai Zai is getting a drink at the corner store when a tall, quiet boy comes to the store without an umbrella. He's handsome and quiet, and he captures Zai Zai's heart immediately. Soon she discovers that this boy goes to her new school, and that he's one of the top students. Will he ever notice her? Can she make an impression on him?
Is It Any Good?
This rom-com from Mainland China charms a little, but might bore some viewers who crave more plot. When I Fly Towards You centers on a teen girl who's crushing hard on the one of the best students in the school. He's cool and aloof, as befits a good teen heartthrob, but the female attention he receives isn't alluring or clever; rather, as some fellow students observe, it amounts to "pestering."
If a tween in the household is interested in school drama, this one won't offend. But the character development lacks, and the plot lags. More engaging shows are out there.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about communication in When I Fly Towards You. What happens when Su Zai Zai gets a boy's name wrong? Are there strategies you use when you've made an embarrassing mistake?
The teens in this show use teamwork to help each other get better grades. What do you do to help your friends succeed?
When students do well in this show, they don't brag about their accomplishments. Why would this be important? What are some benefits of humility?
