What's the Story?

WHO KILLED JILL DANDO? is a three-part British true crime series about a high-profile celebrity murder case that remains unsolved. In the mid 1990s Jill Dando was a journalist and well-known BBC co-presenter of the popular British series Crimewatch, which was responsible for the arrest and conviction of a number of major offenders. On April 26, 1999, she was shot at her front door in West London. Twenty-four years later the case remains unsolved. With the help of her surviving brother Nigel, along with former colleagues, investigators, and others associated with the case, the docuseries chronicles Dando's life, career, and the investigation into her death, which led law enforcement in circles. It also addresses the conviction of Barry George, who served eight years behind bars before he was retried and, due to problems with the forensic evidence, found not guilty.

The detailed docuseries chronicles the investigation into Jill Dando's death without offering much by way of new information. It reviews how investigators attempted to piece together evidence from a contaminated crime scene, a few witness observations, and lots of false leads from the British public. It also brings to light some of the theories that continue to circulate about who committed the crime and why. But outside of an interview with Barry George about his conviction and subsequent appeal with the help of his sister and the TV series Panorama, Who Killed Jill Dando? doesn't offer anything particularly new to this cold case story. For those who've never heard of Jill Dando, it may be of interest. But those who remember what happened may find the series to simply be a reminder of the shocking murder. Nonetheless, one can only hope that the renewed focus will motivate people who know something about what happened to come forward.
