What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Who Killed Sara? is a Mexican murder mystery. Overdubbed into English on Netflix, the series focuses on the workings of a crime family whose businesses include gambling, drugs, prostitution, and human trafficking. The threat of violence is present throughout the show. Physical assault is seen in some episodes but violence, when it is shown, is often stylized. The central murder is framed as a paragliding accident; someone attempts to kill someone else by locking them in a sauna, etc. In addition to plot points about prostitution and human trafficking, the series contains sexual content that includes simulated sex, simulated masturbation, and obscured nudity. Many of the characters are portrayed as homophobic, and homophobic language is used throughout the series. Heavy alcohol use, cocaine, marijuana, cigarettes, and cigars are seen throughout the show.

What's the Story?
Who Killed Sara? begins with a group of friends hanging out on a speedboat in 2001. When the titular Sara dies in a parasailing accident, her brother Álex (Manolo Cardona) is wrongfully convicted for her murder. Twenty years later, he is released from prison and out for revenge. Álex must find the actual killer among his friends, all of whom have become involved with the notorious Lazcano crime family, and his search for truth finds him in danger of losing his own life.
Is It Any Good?
Sometimes a murder mystery is just a set-up for a good, old fashioned family melodrama. That's certainly the case for Who Killed Sara?, which feels like a bit of a throwback to Desperate Housewives or Revenge-era prime time. The problem is that the series never really follows through on the promise of the mystery itself. Instead, it focuses on the Lazcano crime family, which is made up almost exclusively of cliched, generalized characters, while the identity of the killer quickly begins to feel like something just meant to string viewers along.
