This is a police procedural that struggles to deliver a convincing narrative, with characters who feel more like caricatures than real people. Wild Cards is riddled with cliches, the most notable being the demoted cop who faces constant mockery from his colleagues. Attempting to be pithy and clever, the show unfortunately misses its target. This is particularly evident in the portrayal of the savant thief whose actions, like deducing the next target of a heist while in a jail cell sans cell phone, often defy logic. Moreover, the show's tendency to neatly resolve each episode's conflict, often with the culprits unrealistically confessing to their crimes, adds to its ridiculousness.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the characters' actions and what they think the takeaways are.

  • Discuss as a family what might be the real-world consequences of mean or aggressive behaviors shown in the series, both for the victim and the aggressor.

  • Sexual tension between co-workers is a common plotline in TV shows. Why do you think this is? How does it change the focus of the show? How realistic or appropriate does it seem?
