Wonder Pets: In the City
What's the Story?
WONDER PETS: IN THE CITY follows the adventures of Izzy the guinea pig, Zuri the bunny, and Tate the snake, three classroom pets who live in a New York City school. When kids leave the classroom for the day, the Wonder Pets go on adventures. They sing throughout these missions, opera-style. They get a call on their walkie-phone from an animal that needs help, build their Jet Car out of classroom supplies, and go to the rescue! Depending on the day, they might need to help a porcupine whose quills are stuck between two trees, or rescue a mama chicken's egg that's rolling down the hill. No matter the trouble, the Wonder Pets will work together to help their animal friend before flying home to their kindergarten classroom habitats.
Is It Any Good?
Wonder Pets: In the City is a lovely preschool show that continues in the spirit of its predecessor, Wonder Pets! The characters are animated pets that will draw preschoolers in with their relatable problems and adorableness. Izzy, Zuri, and Tate narrate what they're thinking in preschool opera-style music that runs most of the episode. They repeat the "lesson" of each episode in multiple different ways, making it easier for the youngest kids to understand the takeaway. Grown-ups can feel great about the messages the Pets are sharing: They focus on useful skills like coping with big emotions and important life lessons like treating others with kindness.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the Wonder Pets' empathy, or being able to understand how someone else is feeling. Do you think it helps the animals feel better when Izzy, Zuri, or Tate says "I know how you feel" and talks about their emotions?
Families can talk about how the Wonder Pets use teamwork to solve problems. Would they have been able to help the other animals by themselves? How did they work together?
Do you remember what Izzy, Zuri, or Tate do when they have a big feeling? Do you think you could try doing the same thing when you have a big emotion?
