What's the Story?
Based on the 2021 British crime novel of the same name by Imran Mahmoud, YOU DON'T KNOW ME is a British series about a South London man accused of murder. Hero (Samuel Adewunmi) stands accused of killing neighborhood drug dealer Jamil Issa (Jean Nsengiyumva). The prosecution has a strong case against him, but Hero fires his attorneys, and is given the opportunity to share his interpretation of events. What unfolds is a narrative about his love for Kyra (Sophie Wilde), and how far he will go to protect her and his family. Throughout it all, questions are raised about Hero's guilt or innocence, and what his fate will be.
Is It Any Good?
The well-written, skillfully told four-part crime series offers an engaging narrative that never quite ends. As Hero's story unfolds, and details are introduced through his flashbacks, viewers learn the truth behind some key events. However, this information purposely creates more questions than answers. Meanwhile, viewers will find themselves negotiating their feelings about Hero's innocence or guilt, especially since his story is as much about love as murder. It's hard not to get caught up in this intense story world, which is what makes You Don't Know Me an entertaining series.
