Common Sense Media says

Most notorious uncensored celebrity gossip site.

What parents need to know

Positive messages

Many posts make fun of celebrities' physical appearances. The site mocks celebrities while ingratiating itself to them at the same time. Some posts spark racist or religious slurs.

Some posts talk about celebrity skirmishes that turned violent.

Uncensored shots of topless celebs or celebs exiting vehicles sans underwear. There are also many references to celebrities' sexual antics.

Language is fair game. Many appearances of "f--k," "s--t," "c--t."

Many ads on the site, some for products not appropriate for kids, such as alcohol, dating services, and sex toys.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Celebrities partying, drinking, and going to rehab.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this is one of the juiciest and most non-kid-friendly places for celebrity gossip. Perez hones in on Hollywood's most notorious celebs, so there are many references to drinking, drug use, sex, and physical appearance. Posts are irreverent, very tongue-in-cheek, and often cruel, and language in both the posts and the comments isn't safe for kids (many appearances of "f--k" and "s--t"). Comments can also turn into a free-for-all of ethnic, religious, and racial slurs (most recently, a post about Madonna's visit to Israel sparked an outburst of anti-Semitism). Uncensored versions of celebrity photos show breasts and underwearless crotches. The site has a healthy amount of advertising, including some for alcohol, dating sites, and sex toys.

What's it about?

Pink-haired founder Mario Lavandeira calls himself the "Internet's most devilish gossip columnist." He's famous for his trademark white pen, used to embellish photos on his site with things like drug residue under nostrils, and unflattering appendages. He's also developed a reputation for "outing" celebrities on his site, and being unapologetically fickle. Perez recently set a traffic record with 8.82 million page views in 24 hours, and his TV show What Perez Sez (definitely safer for kids than the Web site) on VH1 was already popular after week one.

Is it any good?

Celebrity gossip is a guilty pleasure, but Perez isn't covering it in a way that's appropriate for kids.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about why celebrity gossip is so appealing. covers many celebrity lawsuits. Why do so many celebrities seem to be constantly at odds with the law? Also, for someone who earns a living making fun of celebrities, Perez Hilton seems to go out of his way to be photographed with them. Is he trying very hard to be a celebrity himself? How has the blogosphere changed the way we view celebrities and the news in general?

Perez is gay, and often draws pictures of the p**** in people's hands or in people's mouths. He also often discusses celebrity's affairs.

Perez Is Very Rude

My friend is 11 and she visits that website a lot. I personally HATE Perez and think he is very, very, very rude to people and celebrities. I can write on pictures in paint all I want, in fact I don't know how he got famous I could do the EXACT SAME THING!! And be much nicer about it. Fine I guess if you want to read rude gossip about celebs and your over 13 but no matter what age I am I don't think I'll ever being going on there!!!

Bottom-Feeding Cultural Sewage; Gives Gays a Bad Name

Perez Hilton is the worst kind of gay stereotype imaginable. He's shallow, superficial, ridiculously flamboyant, obsessed with gutter "celeb gossip", and always trying to "force celebrities out of the closet" (anyone he suspects to be "gay" - which is just about everyone - is subject to his constant childish attacks). I can honestly say that I smiled a bit when I heard that a member of the Black Eyed Peas had punched Perez in the face after he refused to leave them alone. The content on this site is beyond juvenile - Perez will draw crude MS Paint penises on pictures and scribble obscenities in random places on the photos. What's really amusing is how he constantly hurls "b*tch" and "whore" at female celebrities, despite the fact that Perez himself is about as big of a "whore" as a gay man can get. Disgraceful.
