What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Arty Mouse Numbers is a collection of mini-games that help kids write and recognize numbers, count, and even add. The app itself is free to try, including four levels, but it's $1.99 to unlock the other nine levels. There isn't a lot of instruction, so kids will do best if they have a basic familiarity with numbers and how to count, or if they have an adult nearby to help. What’s It About?
ARTY MOUSE NUMBERS is a collection of games all designed to help young kids with math. There are 12 main levels; four of them are included in the free version of the app. There are a variety of games covering different skills. In one, kids trace a number whose shape becomes part of a scene (such as a "3" turning into a butterfly wing). Another is a match game with multiple difficulty levels. Kids will count, add (via counting), and more.
Is It Any Good?
Kids who have a basic understanding of numbers and counting will enjoy these straightforward counting and number games. While Arty Mouse Numbers isn't likely to teach kids to count or even recognize numbers by itself, it is a great way to help kids who just need a bit of practice to move forward. The tracing games help kids understand how numbers are formed and help them attach those shapes to familiar objects to aid their memory. Unfortunately, the tracing can be glitchy, so kids will need to trace slowly to get it to work. With the combination of matching, tracing, and counting, kids get solid skill reinforcement.
