Fantastic adaptation of a great strategic board game.
A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this app.
Ease of Play
The game is very easy to learn, with only a few major rules to remember. The strategies involved in winning, however, will take some time to master. Smooth controls make playing the game on the iPad or iPhone easy as well.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Blokus is a strategic board game that translates very well to mobile devices. The tactics involved may be challenging for younger children, but the controls should be simple enough for most anyone to grasp -- even flipping and spinning shaped pieces. Be aware that the app allows kids to connect to the publisher's online community, Gameloft Live, which features a chatting option. Kids can also play multiplayer games locally through a WiFi or Bluetooth connection. The iPad version -- Blokus HD -- allows multiple players to use a single device.

Is It Any Good?
BLOKUS (or Blokus HD for the iPad) is one of the best board game-to-video game translations on mobile devices. With smooth, easy controls, simple to learn rules, and loads of strategy and tactics to pick up along the way, it's a game that you'll want to keep playing for quite some time. It looks simply fantastic in its virtual incarnation, and is very well suited to multiplayer gaming. The iPad version's ability to let multiple people play on the same device gives it the edge over the iPhone version, but either is a great app for gaming with friends. Even going solo, though, you'll find a fun single-player tournament mode to sharpen your skills and keep you entertained for hours.
