Book Writer - eBook, PDF creator
A lot or a little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What parents need to know
Parents need to know that Book Writer - eBook, PDF creator lets parents or kids create ebooks that can be shared as e-pub files or PDFs via email, iTunes, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Images can be added to books from the camera roll, so some prep work is necessary to collect and save images and plan the text. Users can add narration and music and customize backgrounds, colors, and fonts. Book Writer One is the free version that allows users to create one book for free. Though older kids may enjoy creating ebooks using this app, parents of younger kids will find the most use for it in creating custom ebooks themselves to share with their little ones.
What's it about?
Kids or parents can use BOOK WRITER - EBOOK, PDF CREATOR to create ebooks or PDF documents with pictures, text, and sound. Users can include images from the camera roll, drawings created in-app, text, and audio (including voice and background music) and can choose from several template options for the appearance of the book: landscape, square, or portrait with single or two facing pages. Books can be viewed within the app, shared by email as PDFs, or saved to Google Drive, Dropbox, or Evernote.
Is it any good?
This ebook creator is good for easily creating photo books with text or captions and audio narration, but more flexible options are available, so it's hard to justify paying for this one. Lengthier texts are a challenge because they have to be typed and edited in-app, as there's no option for importing text from Word via Google Drive or Dropbox (even though the epub books can be exported to those apps), and lengthy text boxes don't format correctly on the page, with words and letters cut off. The option to add songs or videos to the app is cool but doesn't work well.
