What's It About?
After parents sign up and subscribe to BYJU'S LEARNING APP DISNEY, they can create up to three kid profiles and set the grade level for each. From the home screen, kids then choose where to start their learning path from content categories such as Letters & Sounds, Geometry, Sentence Building, or Number Sense. Each category features a set of videos, songs, stories, and games on the theme. Videos are mostly original content whereas the games tend to be Disney clips or stills interspersed with multiple-choice questions. A content library allows kids to choose specific content based on topic (math or reading) or type (video or game). Progress reports give basic data on what activities kids have completed.
Is It Any Good?
Lots of highly produced, fancy looking material delivers average-quality learning content in this activity set with high kid appeal. BYJU'S Learning App Disney intersperses activities featuring popular Disney characters with original animated videos. Though the activities cover a wide range of topics, the opportunities for interaction are mostly disappointing and the Disney connection feels superficial. In them, Disney characters simply feature as the graphic background or theme for multiple-choice questions. The original videos are mostly creative and engaging. But, they also tend to be long and involved stories that sometimes successfully explore learning content more deeply and sometimes feel like just another kids' cartoon. If kids follow the automatically-generated activities, they won't have much trouble navigating on their own. But parents should be aware that content will continue to load indefinitely. It's a bit confusing for kids who want to explore activities on their own, especially if they don't read yet. Parents should also be on the lookout for misleading information such as labeling the "a" sound in the word "last" as a long vowel sound.
