What parents need to know
Parents need to know that Canticos Bilingual Preschool is an education app that introduces preschoolers to bilingualism through age-appropriate games, songs, videos and books. Through letter recognition, letter sound, number recognition, and counting games in both English and Spanish, kids will have the opportunity to practice foundational skills. In addition to phonics and number sense games, the app offers a collection of sing-along videos and read-along books. Little ones will also learn words that express feelings and explore matching expressions. The app also includes features that promote creativity and imagination. Content language can be switched at any time by tapping the speech bubble button on the top right corner of the screen. The grown-up corner, which is passcode protected, has subscription information, the app's social media links, privacy policy, and terms of use. Read the developer's privacy policy for details on how your (or your kids') information is collected, used, and shared and any choices you may have in the matter, and note that privacy policies and terms of service frequently change.

What's it about?
To get started with CANTICOS BILINGUAL PRESCHOOL, create an account using an email. Grown-ups will be asked a series of questions about their child, including name, birthday, and current reading ability, which the app uses to personalize kids' bilingual experience. Parents are also asked to choose a target language. Although the app launches in the target language, kids can switch between English and Spanish at any time by tapping on the language button on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
The home screen has seven categories to for little ones to choose from: let's play, learn, videos, music, stickers, books, and art. The content is a collection of phonics and number sense games, vocabulary games, songs, books, videos, and some coloring and sticker pages. Kids can navigate most components by tapping the screen, although some components require drag and drop or the use of digital art tools. They'll hear directions aloud and can tap on the music note button on the bottom of the screen to have them repeated. After the free trial, a subscription is required to enjoy all features. The subscription can be used across multiple devices. Without a subscription kids can access a limited number of games, songs, videos, and features.
Is it any good?
Little kids will enjoy exploring and practicing age appropriate phonics and number sense skills through this language-immersive experience. The colorful app is preschool-friendly and simple to navigate. Changing content language requires one simple tap. The games, read along books, and sing along videos are delightfully fun. The collection of games reinforces foundational skills -- letter recognition, letter sound recognition, and counting, which reinforce school readiness. Parents who want to introduce kids to Spanish or English and are looking for an assorted and engaging bilingual experience will find Canticos Bilingual Preschool appealing. Most content, other than Art and Stickers, is geared towards building language skills, and the creative activities add some variety. The eclectic content also taps into different interests and abilities. Some kids may be ready to listen to stories or participate in a sing along, while others may be ready to explore and practice letter sounds and expressive vocabulary in both languages. Plus, there's a bit of social-emotional learning content, which is a great addition.
One of the most unique aspects of Canticos Bilingual Preschool is the collection of songs and books, which include well-known Latin American classics. The curated collection goes beyond promoting language acquisition, creating an opportunity to learn about and celebrate culture. To take full advantage of the content on the app, a subscription is definitely necessary.
Talk to your kids about ...
Families can talk about different ways to take in-app learning offline when using Canticos Bilingual Preschool. Encourage little ones to find things in their environment that begin with specific letter sounds. It's a great opportunity to play I Spy. Say, "I spy something that starts with the letter A, /a/ sound," and see all the things you can identify together. Games like these can reinforce letter sound – word association in either English or Spanish and can extend learning beyond the app.
Have fun alongside little ones and practice language through songs and nursery rhymes. Songs and rhymes are a great way to learn new words and practice vocabulary. The app offers a collection of fun songs to get families started.
