Ease of Play

Turning pages is perfectly easy, and while the text is not highlighted as it is spoken, it is presented in small bits, which makes it easier for early readers to follow. Some of the activities require kids to drag items to locations far across the screen, which may be a dexterity challenge for very young users.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Cinderella - Nosy Crow animated picture book (for iPhone) is a very interactive retelling of the classic fairy tale. The story is told through both narration and character dialogue, which is triggered by tapping the characters. Most pages also include an interactive element, such as helping Cinderella clean or dressing the stepsisters in their ball clothing. Know that while this version of the Cinderella story does make references to "pretty dresses" and "handsome princes," it puts the emphasis on characters being nice and good people.

Is it any good?

CINDERELLA - NOSY CROW ANIMATED PICTURE BOOK (FOR IPHONE) offers a wonderful new presentation of a classic story many of us know by heart. It's nice to see beauty de-emphasized, even if it is still mentioned. And the stepmother even has nice things to say about Cinderella at the end. And where else do Cinderella and Prince Charming get to play ping-pong? The interactive games throughout are great ways for kids to really get involved in the story -- constructing the coach, choosing Cinderella's gown, playing DJ with music at the ball, etc. If you have an iDevice with front-facing camera, you can even see your "reflection" in any mirror in the illustrations. The entire experience is undeniably charming.
