Civilizations Wars HD

Fun military strategy game with great visual style.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

The controls are super easy to handle, while the game can be quite challenging. But there's a big difference between "normal" and "hard" difficulty, so stick with "normal" if you're having trouble.

Miniature wars take place on screen, but you mostly never see the warriors fighting one another. They march from one tower to another and then the "battle" is depicted by the number of troops decreasing. The one exception to this is when a marching soldier gets caught in one of the natural disaster strikes (meteors, tornadoes, lightning, etc., that you can unleash upon your enemies). In those cases, you'll see the little soldier get tossed through the air.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Civilizations Wars HD is a strategy game in which you command an army of Egyptian, Roman, or Chinese warriors and send them into battle against the other two nations. While there's not much violence actually depicted onscreen, war and fighting is the central concept of the game. Also, some levels contain large monsters that must be defeated by your armies. A non-HD version is available for $.99 for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Is it any good?

CIVILIZATIONS WARS HD belongs to an ever-growing genre of app strategy games in which you shift armies from one base to another until you've managed to win all available territories. Some of those games can be incredibly difficult, but the "normal" mode on Civilizations Wars HD has a very manageable challenge level. The addition of godlike powers, which you can use to set natural disasters upon your foes, adds an extra element of strategy (not to mention variety), and the giant boss monsters are a totally new and appealing addition to this type of game. This is a great strategic app game.

Civilization Fun!

I found this to be a very addictive game, especially playing it on the computer. It's very fun and visually cute and it takes a very long time to tire of it. You can summon many skills and have many strategic battles which makes this game very educational in critical thinking. Bosses can be a little scary, but you also need to think in order to kill them. It tends to get boring though, because the same thing is repeated in every level and the difficulty factor only grows slightly enough that it is barely noticeable for every level.
