What’s It About?
CLAROPDF PRO gives kids an opportunity to explore content and learn new information by having documents read to them out loud. Four voices are available for free in 27 languages, and more voices are available via in-app purchase. Users control speech rate and follow along with highlighting. Those editing a document can highlight words, add sticky notes, strike through information, draw lines and shapes, add photos, and make audio notations in the document. If kids have visual difficulties such as color blindness or light sensitivity, they can change the background color and invert the screen colors. After they've listened to and edited a document, they can save it and share it via email. The app works with other apps and programs, like Adobe Reader, Google Drive, and Dropbox. Little kids who can benefit from the features will likely need help uploading and setting things up.
Is It Any Good?
This paid education app is an excellent way to help kids with studying and learning new information. ClaroPDF Pro includes many features such as audio notation and on-screen editing tools that appeal to a variety of studying preferences. While it will read content in photos and from websites, the app works most easily with large blocks of paragraph text. The formatting of the page that's uploaded could be messy, especially in the cases of websites that use symbols, bulleted lists, sidebars, headers, and footers. Bottom line, it can take some time to find the best kind of content to use in the app and upload it effectively for kids, but there are many editing options that appeal to a variety of preferences and learning styles.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how ClaroPDF Pro may help with independent studying. Many are able to remember details when studying by repeatedly listening to information. Listening to stories and factual information out loud could help users remember facts and learn complicated processes.
Talk about learning styles and strategies. Uploading documents into the app and listening to stories can be a way for kids to learn new information, especially if they struggle with reading. What's the best way for you to learn new information?
