What’s It About?
Create a new profile, choose from three ability levels, and set your native language to start EASY PEASY: ENGLISH FOR KIDS. From there, parents scroll through and add word groups to be studied. When kids get started, they tap on a word group and cycle through a series of flash cards, multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blank sentences, and matching activities. English words and phrases are accompanied by graphics and/or the native language translation as audio or text. Kids get points and prizes when they reach their pre-set daily goal or when they achieve certain accomplishments.
Is It Any Good?
English language learning is front and center with this adaptable collection of customizable flash cards. Though the flash card setup isn't exactly exciting, it's nice to see more than just a simple collection of isolated vocabulary words. Themed groupings include the usual suspects like colors or simple foods, as well as words that don't make their way into language learning apps as often (dragon fruit, anyone?). Then there are the phrases, pronouns, and other important building blocks that someone needs to know to be able to functionally speak a language. Beyond the flash card introduction and review, kids also see the new words or phrases used in sentences, so they can experience the new material in context. Everything -- including word groups, flash cards, and difficulty levels -- is customizable, though it does get a little complicated navigating through it all. Parents and kids can also easily use the material that comes pre-loaded in the app. The major thing missing in EASY peasy: English for Kids is the element of fun. Though the presentation is clean and graphics are kid-friendly, using the app could be a bit more playful and engaging.
