What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Etch a Sketch HD for iPad, a virtual version of the classic art toy, will allow you to upload personal photos from your photo library, which you can then draw over with the Etch a Sketch. The app will also allow you to post your creations to a Facebook page, which includes any creations of yours that incorporate private photos. There's a similar app for the iPhone and iPod touch; it costs $.99.

Is It Any Good?
ETCH A SKETCH HD FOR iPAD provides a good-looking -- but less user-friendly -- virtual version of the classic drawing toy. Using the knobs to draw proves much trickier to pull off on a flat iPad screen than it does with real three-dimensional knobs you can hold and turn on a real Etch a Sketch. You can also draw directly on the screen with your finger, but that sort of kills the whole Etch a Sketch feel. There are some nice extras, like the ability to add stickers to your artwork. But on the whole, the Etch a Sketch feels like a toy best left in the offline world.
