Etch a Sketch HD for iPad

Iffy art app lets kids upload personal photos to Facebook.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

Using the virtual knobs to direct your line drawings can be quite tricky. You can also draw directly with your finger, which is much, much easier -- but sort of defeats the purpose of an Etch a Sketch.

Is it any good?

ETCH A SKETCH HD FOR iPAD provides a good-looking -- but less user-friendly -- virtual version of the classic drawing toy. Using the knobs to draw proves much trickier to pull off on a flat iPad screen than it does with real three-dimensional knobs you can hold and turn on a real Etch a Sketch. You can also draw directly on the screen with your finger, but that sort of kills the whole Etch a Sketch feel. There are some nice extras, like the ability to add stickers to your artwork. But on the whole, the Etch a Sketch feels like a toy best left in the offline world.
