Ease of Play

True fishers might find this app more intuitive, but for others, the directions are overwhelming and not always clear. There is no tutorial level, so you'll have to just keep trying until you get it right.

Players use hooks to catch fish. Once they are caught, they can be released or saved.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Fishin' 2 Go is a relatively realistic portrayal of fishing. Cast the line, catch a fish, set the hook, and reel your fish in. Try different rod strengths, hook sizes, sinker weights, and lures to get the right combination for different fish. There are a variety of locations to fish in and each of them have set "challenges" to complete. The process of casting and reeling in requires a certain amount of coordination and will be too difficult for most young children. For older children and adults, trying to complete challenges can help you understand which lures might work with which fish.

Is it any good?

FISHIN' 2 GO is an impressive app. It makes excellent use of the features of Android phones, including the accelerometer, touch screen, and vibrations. The challenge is that, in going for total realism, it can be frustrating and overwhelming to learn how to catch and reel in a fish. Setting the hook is particularly tricky, as you often only have a second or two to get it right. Once you nail down the basics, however, the app becomes somewhat addictive. There's always room to catch a bigger fish, after all. With the app's multiple profiles, the whole family can have the chance to complete challenges and compete against one another for bragging rights on the best catch.
