What’s It About?
FRUIT NINJA ACADEMY: MATH MASTER begins with a comic-book-style story about Truffles the pig, who needs to be rescued. Kids play math mini-games to help Katsuro and his friends rescue truffles. After the story begins, a map appears on the home screen. The six learning categories are displayed, and kids can select any of them by tapping on the appropriate area of the map. Within each mini-game, a character appears with instructions for playing the game. There's plenty of gameplay variety. For example, some games require kids to bowl watermelons, while others require them to throw the correct number of bananas at a giant. And of course, many require lots of fruit slicing. The home screen also includes a tappable chalkboard where kids can take quizzes and parents can track progress. There's also an interactive board where kids can display their reward stickers.
Is It Any Good?
Fruit Ninja Academy: Math Master puts a fun, familiar twist on math. Unlocking levels and earning rewards keep kids motivated to continue learning, and the addictive act of slicing fruit is an added bonus. The mini-games are thoughtfully organized into important skill categories that continue to challenge kids as they progress. In one mini-game, kids have to swipe bananas from trees into a monkey's hand. The accuracy of the touch controls is extremely frustrating and distracting. Overall, the games are ideally balanced among learning, gaming, and fun.
