What's It About?

K-5 SCIENCE FOR KIDS - TAPPITY is an interactive science show and educational experience. Parents set up a profile for each child with a nickname and an age. Kids then explore lessons in a wide range of topics like animals, space, the human body, and Ancient Egyptian technology.

There are games, trivia quizzes, creative activities, and more packed into each lesson. Kids are invited in by Haley, the ever-enthusiastic host, to join the Tappity community by taking a picture for their virtual "badge." After a quick overview where they meet some of the other cast of characters, they're free to explore topics based on their interests. As they explore, they help make decisions that impact the information shared. In one activity kids work wtih Haley to create their own animal who's designed to survive with a set of environmental factors they've specified. As kids move through the lessons, they'll earn Tappity points, which increase their level. They can track their level and all the things they have made in their Adventure Journal. There are also live lessons several times a week. These are also interactive and later become part of the app lesson library.

With an energetic, goofy vibe, this is a great choice for kids who are curious in all things STEM, but don't want to take things too seriously. K-5 Science for Kids - Tappity will capture those in that certain sweet spot where they're able to understand moderate science concepts, but still appreciate a good dose of silliness. It's fun, interactive, and educational.

Unfortunately, it's not perfect. One of the biggest downsides is that voting/trivia in the live lessons seems to be glitchy -- but they are a small annoyance in an otherwise positive experience. The subscription fee isn't trivial, so you'll want to try the free content with your kids to make sure it's a good fit before diving in. That said, this would be a wonderful addition to a homeschool/unschool curriculum, and for families with kids who never stop asking, "Why?"
