Privacy & safety

Some privacy concerns. To play a multiplayer game, you'll need to have an account with Gameloft, which requires you to enter an email address. The Gameloft multiplayer lobby has a chat room, which is unregulated (though there is a warning reminding minors not to divulge any personal information and to never meet another member in real-world situations). Multiplayer games can be played with strangers, and users may also upload a photo of themselves to their profile.

Some safety concerns. If players choose to register for a Gameloft account to use the multiplayer mode, they will have access to a chat room where it's possible to exchange personal information with strangers.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Let's Golf HD is a family-friendly golf simulation game. Players hit the links on one of four courses (though two must be unlocked in the game's tournament mode). Rather than a straightforward simulation, this is a cartoon-infused interpretation of the game, along the same lines as Sony's Hot Shots franchise. Hitting the ball is done via a swing meter, where users must touch the screen at just the right time. The game offers a variety of multiplayer options, including hot-seat play -- for two players using the same iPad -- which is great if you have two children. It also utilizes Gameloft's online service, though, allowing them to play -- and chat -- with strangers, as well as upload photos. Content-wise, the game is exactly like the iPod and iPhone version of Let's Golf.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

There aren't a lot of golf gaming options on the iPhone or iPad yet -- and Let's Golf is one of the better ones. It's good, but not great, and often seems to lift elements directly from Sony's popular Hot Shots series, rather than taking any chances of its own. It offers plenty of options, though, and will keep casual fans of the greens happy. If you've got the iPod/iPhone version of the game, there's no reason to upgrade, but if not, you won't regret the $5 spent here.
