What's It About?

MAMALINGUA LITE includes 8 categories -- Bathing, Changing, Colors, Manners and Behaviors, Modes of Transportation, Numbers, and Sleeping. A limited list of everyday vocabulary words and phrases are listed in alphabetical order within each category. Each word or phrase includes the translation right below it. Tap the play button next to each to hear it read, or tap on it and select it to view more details, such as the translation and spelled out pronunciation. You can save words and phrases you use often and continue to practice them with your child.

In this language-learning system, parents will appreciate the focus on everyday language to pass along to their kids. With MamaLingua Lite parents can build language skills around one topic at a time. For example, the Bathing category includes words and phrases parents would normally use when giving their child a bath. The Manners and Behaviors categories also offer useful phrases like "behave yourself" and "it is his turn." The app is bilingual so Native Spanish speakers can learn and teach their kids English, too. What's especially nice is the focus on routines parents and kids usually do together so that the words make sense in context and families are using them often. For parents who want to encourage their kids to be bilingual and learn themselves, this app can help make it happen.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about everyday routines by naming activities and things in Spanish and English using MamaLingua Lite.

  • Take opportunities to use the language you're learning with your kid. Name the parts of the body in Spanish as you help your little one take a bath and use phrases in Spanish to ask them to do things such as close their eyes when washing their hair.

  • Incorporate colors into your Spanish conversations and ask questions such as "Do you want a yellow banana?" or make statements such as "Look at the blue sky."
