What’s It About?
MISS HOLLYWOOD: LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION! - PET ADVENTURES draws kids into the world of glamorous pup Miss Hollywood. When Miss Hollywood arrives in -- you guessed it! -- Hollywood to visit her Granny Gabo, she finds that the mansion is in disarray. She bands together with friends to make movies and refurbish the old place. Kids choose a movie type, such as Bollywood, pirates, outer space, or helicopter adventure, and then play the corresponding mini-game to unlock clothes, furniture, and repairs to the mansion. Involving things like tapping on a character to jump over an obstacle, choosing the correct sets and props to match the director's requests, or tapping on pets at certain moments, the mini-games earn each pet one item at a time. An in-app purchase of $3.99 buys access to another room/pet, and $9.99 unlocks them all.
Is It Any Good?
Kids who love movies and fashion may get a kick out of these pet adventures, but the mini-games are repetitive, and the cost to unlock the entire game is high for the depth of content. The intro to Miss Hollywood: Lights, Camera, Fashion! - Pet Adventures suggests some promise, and there's even some positive messaging about helping out family members in need. Sadly, it quickly becomes clear that the mini-games are just not very engaging: For example, the Bollywood scenes involve tapping on one of three pets when the spotlight touches them, which requires no skill and no timing. When the director informs you that he wants a meteor and a fairy-frilled puppy in his film, there's little talent required to pick them out of the small lineup. Even if you've forgotten, he reminds you with a picture that identically matches the items. Worse, the games are basically the same every time. Since the mansion magically renovates itself, there are no choices and little chance of creativity. Will kids be amused and entertained for a while? Possibly. But you'll probably want to stick with the free version before shelling out big bucks for an app that may get old very quickly.
