What's It About?

As a simple arcade racing game, MMX HILL DASH 2 doesn't have a story. Instead, you have to drive an obstacle course full of collapsing roadways, loop-the-loops, and other hazards, doing so faster than your competition. You also have to make sure you don't run out of gas, or flip over, since this will cause your vehicle to explode. Sure, your driver will survive to race another day, but it'll still take you out of the race.

While this arcade-style driving game can be fun, success on the track quickly becomes less about skill and more about playing enough to earn the money needed to improve your ride. In MMX Hill Dash 2, players race jeeps and other vehicles on a side-scrolling track that has collapsing pathways, loops, and jumps. Using the gas and brake pedals, which also control which way your vehicle flips, you have to go faster than the competition while also staying upright on the track. As you drive, you pick up tokens needed to upgrade your vehicle's top speed, grip, and other attributes. It's only by collecting items that you'll beat the competition -- and thus unlock new courses. But then again, you can also earn these tokens by watching ads or just spending real money; in other words, you can basically pay to win. Which is why MMX Hill Dash 2 can be fun for a while, especially once you've souped up your jeep, but it's nothing you'll stick with for very long.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about marketing to kids. In MMX Hill Dash 2, you can spend real money to buy the currency needed to improve your vehicle, but you can also get this currency by playing or watching ads, so which seems like a smarter decision to you?

  • Talk about driving safety. While the drivers in MMX Hill Dash 2 are never hurt in crashes, can you see how having these kinds of accidents in real life would be painful? What does that tell you about the importance of being a safe driver?

  • Discuss realism in games. Can a jeep really go up a loop-the-loop? What do you think would happen if you tried this in real life?
