What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for iPad is more of a chase game than a race game. You play as a police officer who pursues fleeing suspects in sports cars, and the only way to stop them is to crash into them. You're playing on the side of the law, but the game still rewards reckless driving. In two-player WiFi games, kids can take on the part of the criminal. Be aware that there is a virtually identical version of the game made for iPhone and iPod Touch. Some studies suggest that playing racing games that reward reckless behavior may have an impact on some new drivers.

Is It Any Good?
The graphics, control, and overall presentation of NEED FOR SPEED HOT PURSUIT FOR iPAD are fantastic (and the iPhone version is really just as good). Chasing down the bad guys through different environments (like forests or shorelines), and with varying weather and lighting effects (you can drive at night, or through a thunderstorm) provides a great visceral thrill. The career mode offers different types of challenges and the opportunity to earn money that can be spent on more powerful vehicles. But whichever cars you use (except in mulitplayer), you're on the side of the law in this version of Need for Speed, which is a nice change of pace for the series.
