Nella: Kingdom Adventures
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's It About?
NELLA: KINGDOM ADVENTURES is a collection of six mini-games for preschoolers that features characters from Nickelodeon's Nella the Princess Knight TV show. Three of the games ask kids to match characters, colors, and/or shapes. One of them has kids tossing an ice cream to a character (using trajectories). Another asks kids to plant seeds and pick plants. Kids earn special cards as they play. Once they earn a few cards, they unlock a memory matching game, which gets increasingly difficult as kids unlock more and more cards to play with.
Is It Any Good?
While fans of the series may appreciate seeing their favorite characters in the app, the mini-games have no story to tie them together. Nella: Kingdom Adventures is a fine play experience. The games behave as you'd hope, are reasonably age appropriate, and don't require a lot of instructions or fine motor skills. Unfortunately, they also don't make for a super engaging experience. Without voice-overs or a storyline, these could be any characters, so the app just doesn't live up to the quality of the show.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about matching things in Nella: Kingdom Adventures and in general. What does it mean if something "matches"? What are some ways an object can match? Find objects that match in terms of color, shape, or even smell and taste.
Play a memory card game. You can make your own cards with pictures of familiar objects to make it easier for young kids to remember.
