A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Panther Math Paper is an app that lets kids with varying abilities complete math problems independently. Developed using principles of universal design (an inclusive movement that promotes accessibility in design), it's not a calculator or worksheet but a tool to do whatever math is desired or assigned. The "paper" is divided with grid lines to help kids with organization. They enter numbers, operation signs, sum lines, and the like, just as they would on paper, but they can do so in a variety of ways that can work for kids with autism, motor, or organizational issues. The app is designed to work for all elementary and secondary math problems from basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through algebra and geometry.

What’s It About?
Kids with a wide range of challenges, including motor disabilities, will use Panther Math Paper for the same reason their peers use paper and pencil: to solve and complete math problems. However, they're not limited by their ability to write, organize, or process in a certain way. The app's tools make it possible for kids of all abilities to do computations, from addition to algebra. The screen shows a keypad and grid and offers multiple ways to enter numbers and mathematical symbols so kids can "write out" math problems step by step. Work can be printed or emailed for correction and feedback.
Is It Any Good?
PANTHER MATH PAPER is an excellent alternative to paper and pencil that provides kids with various disabilities a way to independently do all levels of math work required from K–12. With careful attention to universal design principles (the main principle being that something works for everyone), using it is especially intuitive for kids with physical, cognitive, social, and other disabilities. Beyond being excited to visually work out math problems, kids will appreciate the customizable screens and the ability to share work and get a general sense of empowerment.
